The Murrieta Fire & Rescue Cadet Program has been shaping young leaders since its founding, providing hands-on training to youth aged 14–20 in the Murrieta community.
The MFR Cadet Program is a structured volunteer program operating under Murrieta Fire & Rescue. Cadets gain real-world experience alongside certified fire professionals, learning everything from hose operations to search and rescue.
Our cadets go on to careers in fire, EMS, law enforcement, and emergency management — building a legacy of service to the Murrieta community.
The Murrieta Fire Cadet Program is a youth program organized under the City of Murrieta. It provides direct experience for those who are seeking a career in the fire service by integrating them directly with full-time firefighters.
The purpose of the Cadet Program is to educate young men and women in the modern procedures of fire suppression, fire prevention, and emergency medical services. The training program is an intense and demanding experience — but cadets reap the benefits of improved character and a deeper understanding of what it takes to pursue a career in the fire service.
New cadets are accepted into the program only once per year and must complete the one-week academy in July to become a cadet. Applications open each year from January 1 through February 28 — visit the Join Us page to apply during the window.
The PT Test is a cumulative-score event. Come well hydrated and nourished — you'll have at least a 5-minute break between events, and all events are added into a total score for your final grade.
10:00 maximum, timed — four laps around the football field. Faster times earn more points.
25 minimum. Chest to fist, arms locked out at the top, no breaking plank. Stretching/shaking out is OK.
25 minimum in a timed 2-minute event. Hands behind head, all the way up to elbows touching knees.
No minimum, but they add to your score. Chin over the bar at the top, full "deadman hang" at the bottom.
We show up for our community — in training, on scene, and in life. Service before self is the core of everything we do.
Cadets develop real leadership skills through accountability, initiative, and mentorship within our structured program.
Emergency response is a team sport. We train together, grow together, and always have each other's backs.
We hold ourselves to the highest standard — professionally, academically, and personally — at every training session.
